Here's a peek at a big project we've been working on.  Lucasfilm and Tencent have partnered on a brand new survival game mode in Contra: Return -- Imperial Training!  Play as a Stormtrooper and compete in Imperial training exercises from within the Death Star.  Dive into the map, arm yourself with a vast selection of weapons and skills and eliminate other Stormtroopers to become the last one standing.  More to come soon!

The Mandalorian

Posted on October 4, 2018
"After the stories of Jango and Boba Fett, another warrior emerges in the Star Wars universe. The Mandalorian is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order. We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic..."

We're making something truly spectacular and ground-breaking with The Mandalorian.  For all the latest information on the show go to: https://www.starwars.com/news/category/the-mandalorian

Star Wars x Brave Frontier 2

Posted on August 24, 2018

We're kicking off an amazing collaboration between Lucasfilm and Alim for Brave Frontier 2!  Play as Luke, Leia, Han, Chewie and Obi-Wan against Darth Vader, Stormtroopers and other characters from BF2.  The pixel characters and environments look fantastic and really feel nostalgic while fitting in perfectly with the style of Brave Frontier.  This is one of those opportunities that feels really special.  Hope you all enjoy it!

Join the Force: Lucasfilm

Posted on July 1, 2018

Big news everyone!  I'm very pleased to announce that I've accepted an amazing opportunity from The Walt Disney Company to rejoin Lucasfilm.  It's an incredible honor to return to the Lucas family and work with so many talented and creative people developing the stories and ideas that drive our films, television shows, theme parks, and games.  Truly a dream job!

I can't share much yet but I'm blown away every day by the work my team is doing and look forward to providing many updates here as often as I can.  Until then, please watch this short video for a peek at what we're building behind-the-scenes.

Solo Trailer w/Kinect Star Wars Soundtrack

Posted on February 7, 2018

So happy to see some love for the amazing soundtrack from Kinect Star Wars being used on this parody trailer.  Trust me, we made this game with a lot of love and respect for Star Wars, but we were also in on the joke and believed the "silly" Rancor and Dance modes were a nice way to add some tongue-in-cheek humor to the game.  George fortunately agreed!

And over the years that have passed since the release of the game I've had more kids and families share their stories about how they enjoyed this game together more than pretty much any other game I've made.  I'm still proud of the work everyone put into this title and I'm hopeful that it's seen one day not as a punchline for what they don't like about Star Wars, but as a game that ended up as an experimental, light-hearted and ultimately commercial success.

Oh, and we also got to make this thing of beauty!

Gamescom 2012: Star Wars 1313 Preview

Posted on August 23, 2012

Craig stands proudly as Mark lurks in the background.

I had the pleasure of attending Gamescom 2012 this year in beautiful Cologne, Germany to discuss and play our run-time demo of Star Wars 1313.  We had a fantastic reception to the game at E3 and again at Gamescom.  But don't take my word for it.  Check out this great write-up from El33tonline:

Titled ‘Star Wars 1313,’ the game is set in the bowels of the storied planet of Coruscant (famous in the Star Wars fiction), and is in development at LucasArts’ studios in San Francisco and Singapore. LucastArts’ Craig Derrick was on-hand to walk us through the game while the company’s Mark James (platform technical director) was also lurking in the darkness of the demo room (located in Activision’s booth) to oversee proceedings.

“Star Wars 1313, for us, is our first mature-themed game at LucasArts,” Derrick began. “It’s about playing as a bounty hunter in the most dangerous place in the galaxy – the ruthless criminal underworld of Coruscant’s Level 1313."

The demo began with a few close-ups of vehicles and a few environmental shots that in most any other game would seem pretty standard, except in Star Wars 1313, every last bolt, scratch and scrape is displayed in glorious detail – as I said before, I couldn’t believe that this was all really running real-time at a playable framerate.

The characters, too, benefit from an incredible level of care and attention and while their faces, bodies and movements still appear ‘game-like,’ it’s at a point where it truly does look like the CG you would expect in a Star Wars film, or a Pixar animated movie.
