Kubo: A Samurai Quest Reviews (Updated!)

Posted on October 20, 2016

We've received some wonderful reviews for our first game Kubo: A Samurai Quest while our app store ratings have been huge.  We're so appreciative of all your support and so happy you like our little game.

"Kubo: A Samurai Quest is an immersive Match 3 puzzle game with a lovely soundtrack. I can honestly say Kubo: A Samurai Quest is one of the best Match 3 puzzle games I've played (and I've played a lot).  It has beautiful graphics, a nice story line and inspiring music" - Android Guys

"The game looks like it's made from origami. The LAIKA style and creature battles make this match 3 puzzle game an addicting and welcome change of pace for licensed games. Fifth Journey Limited has provided some hope for licensed games. I look forward to their next release. 8/10" - GameSkinny

"With its variety of match-three gameplay types folded together like an origami samurai, this gorgeous puzzler enthralls us just like the movie that inspired it. Pulling off a massive chain-reaction combo or vanquishing an enemy with our team of paper companions is endlessly satisfying. We even find ourselves cranking up the music, just to head-bob along to Kubo's fast-fingered shamisen stylings." - Apple App Store Editor

Our FIRST Game: Kubo: A Samurai Quest™

Posted on August 18, 2016

MATCH. COLLECT. BATTLE!

I'm pleased to announce the release of our first game: Kubo: A Samurai Quest.

Eric Tan and Craig Derrick at LAIKA

Match magical charms, discover and collect beautiful origami characters, and battle against the forces of the evil Sisters on your quest through The Far Lands. Based on the animated film Kubo and the Two Strings we worked closely with the incredibly talented team at LAIKA to create a Match-3 puzzle game with a fun collection and accessible battle mechanic that we think audiences of all ages will find entertaining and challenging!

I'm incredibly proud of the teams at Fifth Journey, Playside Studios, and Universal for making this beautiful game together.  Please go see the movie and give our game a try.  We really hope you like it!

Craig Derrick (Top) and Ian Dominguez (Bottom) at Hartbeat Productions

(L/R Adam Hann-Bird, Craig Derrick, Ian Dominguez, Joey Wells, Michael Scalzitti, Harry Ratchford, and Jeremy Bernstein)

We wrapped our first group of writing sessions for the Kevin Hart game at HartBeat Productions.  What a tremendous honor and so much fun to work with Kevin and all of these funny guys.  I love building out these writers rooms and breaking story with a diverse group of people.  Story is the (pun intended) the heartbeat of this game and we cracked what I think will be a fun adventure game that will deliver on Kevin's humor and the world of a Comedic Rockstar.  Can't wait for you guys to play this game!

Fifth Journey in the South China Morning Post

Posted on March 15, 2016

Reading a Chinese newspaper at Tempest Bar during GDC. As you do.

Congratulations to Fifth Journey and Eric for the great coverage in today's South China Morning Post following our company announcement.

“Many gaming companies want to work in Hollywood, but we understand their stories and characters first and then decide what kind of game to make.” The three Hollywood studios are so keen for Tan to get started that his team has been given permission to look at movies six months ahead of the release and have access to the writers and creators of the movies for as much information as they need to create the games.

The actual design of the storylines and characters, the game design and the monetisation are done by Fifth Journey’s creative office in San Francisco, led by chief creative officer Craig Derrick, while publishing, sales and marketing, dealing with Asian channels and distribution are done in Hong Kong.
