Just got back from an incredible trip to Sacramento for the Fire & Ice RGX, where I had the absolute honor of meeting two legends: Garry Kitchen and David Crane.
Garry’s GameMaker for the Commodore 64 was the software that first made me believe I could make games as a kid growing up in Detroit. It was so impactful, I’ve kept a sealed copy in my office all these years. Finally getting the chance to meet Garry and tell him what that meant to me was surreal—and he was kind enough to sign my copy of GameMaker.
And of course, Pitfall was the game I dreamed of making—and meeting David Crane, the creator himself, was a full-circle moment. I even have a canvas print of the Pitfall box art hanging in my office, which David graciously signed.
I also picked up their new Atari 2600 game, Casey’s Gold, designed by Dan Kitchen—complete with an old-school Activision-style patch if you score high enough.
Forever grateful. Thank you Garry and David —true pioneers who inspired a kid from Detroit to chase a game dev dream.
